[...] Heidsieck & Co. Monopole “Blue Top” Champagne This is the real stuff, meaning, real Champagne (in other words, made in France, from grapes grown in the Champagne region). This is dry and delicious, comes in a festive bright yellow bottle, and can be found for around $35. Click here for tasting notes and a full review of Blue Top Champagne. [...]

Hi,

Was just mooching and found this review of Heidseck Monopole Blue Top. Well, I've just bought a case of the stuff. Partly because I like Champagne, and partly because I like Monopole, but mostly because I was offered a dozen bottles at a price that meant I'd be crazy not to invest in a whole load of the stuff.

However, I live in the UK - London, to be precise - and Monopole is quite a popular bubbly here. It has a robust, but easy going quality that makes it one of those bottles that people appreciate and it is a name (together with Lanson, Piper-Heidseck, Nicholas Fuillatte, Perrier Jouet, Laurent Perrier and a couple of others) that inspires confidence and always gets a look of approval when pulled out of the fridge.

I've also had the privilege of hosting a meal with friends when in Paris and Monopole was brought round in abundance there. You can't get much more of a vote of confidence than that!

If you get a chance, do try comparing a few different of those mentioned above and see what you think.

Thanks for the post. I love champagne! In fact, I just suggested giving champagne as a gift on my blog. Now I know I'm not alone in my thought :)
